This series is an academic-based reading of Beyoncé’s beencountry.com website, published between April 3 to June 19, 2024. Accompanying the release of Cowboy Carter, the website is an online curated multimedia collection that I argue she uses to simultaneously reveal and challenge how identities are formed — balancing between new possibilities and historical influences.

Mourning Ozilla
This series is my most personal and vulnerable writing — and the most important. In January 2025, we lost our eldest fur baby, Ozilla, in a tragic post-surgery incident. It was and continues to linger; these monthly writings are therapeutic processes where I work through mourning, grief, and loss. These oscillate between casual and semi-academic language, but they are pieces where I do my best to keep her memory alive.
Mourning Ronaldo
‘Mourning Ronaldo’ is now an accompanying series to Ozilla’s. In November 2025, we lost our second eldest fur baby, our sweet boy Ronaldo. Similar to my writings on Ozilla, these pieces are where I write through grief and loss, but also identity — where I was his primary caregiver, managing his chronic illness. He was a very special boy, so these writings are just as intimate and personal.
